Has the entire field case, end cover, and solenoid covered in a plastic sheathing for weather protection. This sheathing cannot easily be removed. It would have to be cut off in order to disassemble the unit. Also there are 2 rubber sealing o-rings around the nose cone.

Please note the suppliers description above says weather protection, not waterproof. Even though the coated starter appears to be a good idea, it is not a cure for protection from running in water. No starter is 100% waterproof. If you drive in water, it will get in. Water and electrical parts do not mix. As I see it, it is probably better off with no rubber as the coating will hold water in and cause corrosion, rusting and etc.
